3 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HASHTAGS

Hashtags are a unique way to link your picture or comment to a topic/discussion. They came around a few years ago and have gotten people to become social to the point of living online! By creating a hashtag you can find posts related to ones with your hashtag! It's basically a tag. I'm pretty sure you all know this though so I'll get to the point.

1. Hashtags can be dangerous. Teens have been disguising their self harming through hastags. One of the most common ones such as #cat (means cutting), #Annie (means anxiety) and #Olive for obsessive-compulsive disorder have over 44 million search results. Parents are being told what to look out for to see if their child is showing any worrying behavior online.
2. They are secret powerful organizers and make messages searchable
Hashtags can be a useful way to refer to past notes, important things to do or can even be a reference for reminders. If this won't help us teens organize ourselves, trust me nothing will until we're 16 and want to impress people. An example of this handy dandy is if you need to remember to buy eggs, send yourself a text via Whatsapp saying "Remember to buy eggs!" and then add #reminder after it! Then search the hashtag when you want to see if you have any new reminders to find "Remeber to buy eggs!". And there you have it; the new smart and neat personal organizer!
3. They're like the batlight for your squad
Need to contact the girls? Or the mates or dudes or whatever? (no clue how boys refer to their friends). Well, hashtags are the solution! Other than DM's and group chats (which can become really hard to keep up with) post a picture saying "Let's meet at the mall in 10 minutes and grab lunch" or whatever you want to say and then add any hashtag which only your squad will recognize and it has to be one that hasn't been used yet except for by your squad! It's not that hard to find one believe it or not. But also believe that people do have similar minds so try not to search for a hashtag that may seem random but actually could seriously be overused!
Well I hope that was fun! Enjoy, my social butterflies!
